thru December 6 - Cherokee Carvers: Tradition Renewed - he Asheville Art Museum is proud to present Cherokee Carvers: Tradition Renewed. Cherokee Carvers: Tradition Renewed will examine different aspects of late 20th and early 21st century Cherokee carving. It will include ritual objects, functional wares and pieces designed to be sold to tourists and collectors. The exhibition will include both stone and wood carvings and focuses on artists working in Western North Carolina today.

thru November 20 - CITY OF FOUR SEASONS IN TWO DIMENSIONS - Another of the region’s most popular juried and judged art exhibitions, attracting artists from throughout the region. This year’s show will be co-produced by its founder, WICKWIRE fine art/folk art, and The Arts Council of Henderson County and will be commemorating the 10th anniversary of a show that visually celebrates Hendersonville and Henderson County. thru December 3 - Mountain Sculptors Annual Exhibition - Vadim Bora Gallery hosts the sixth annual group exhibition of Mountain Sculptors in “METAMORPHOSIS.” An exceptional gathering of ideas and objects from the first seed of the creative thought, rendered in drawings, models and maquettes to the finished work. The exhibit opens November 6 and runs through December 3, 2009. thru December 24 - Ride the Polar Express - Pajama clad passengers will board trains bound for the North Pole at The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad this holiday season! The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad anticipates the event will draw nearly 45,000 passengers! The Polar Express train rides begin November 6 and run through December 24. The rides are based on the beloved children’s book, by Chris Van Allsburg, and the holiday feature film from Warner Bros. Pictures about a doubting young boy who takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. Be sure to shop the new line of official Polar Express merchandise at the event, featuring Polar Express pajamas, snow globes, photo albums, picture frames, fleece blankets, cocoa mugs, and more. www.GSMR.com First Class seating upgrades are available. Meet at the Montford Recreation Center, 34 Pearson Dr. Call for trip details – registration required. thru December 11 - Senior Treks - This low impact trekking club offers leisurely-paced hikes designed with seniors in mind. Meet at the Recreation Office, 72 Gashes Creek Rd. at 9:30 a.m. on trip day. Bring lunch, water and proper clothing. Registration required. Hikers should be in good physical condition. Cost is $2 per hiker per trip for transportation. Nov. 13, Montreat Hike We’ll work our way along the Trestle trail in Montreat. Some uphill and rocky paths on this 2-3 mile out and back trail. Van ride is approximately 20 minutes. Dec. 11, Warren Wilson River Trail A 4 mile easy trail along the Swannanoa River at the campus of Warren Wilson College. Van ride is approximately 15 minutes.

thru November 29 - The Best Christmas Pageant Ever - Flatrockplayhouse.org. The fall YouTheatre show scheduled for November 18 – November 29 is The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. The Herdmans are back! Your family will love the story of how an unruly and incorrigible bunch of siblings help everyone else rediscover the true meaning of Christmas. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is a fun show with a chuckle-around-every-corner.

- BC Chamber Chorale - The Brevard College Chamber Chorale has been invited to perform in the first ever Christmas Concert by the Asheville Lyric Opera Company on Friday, November 20. The 7:30 p.m. celebration at the Diana Wortham Theatre in Asheville will benefit Hearts with Hands, a charity organization that seeks help disadvantaged youth in Western North Carolina. The Mars Hill College Jazz Band, Celebrations Singers of Asheville (children's choir) and Soundings High School Ensemble will also take part in the holiday celebration. - Christmas Concert - 7:30pm (Diana Wortham Theater) Come hear music for the Holiday Season performed by stars of the Asheville Lyric Opera and some of western North Carolina’s finest musicians.

- Downtown Master Plan Action Committee Meeting - Downtown Management Subcommittee will hold a meeting on Friday, November 20 at 8:30 am at the Office of Economic Development, 29 Haywood Street. The Arts & Culture Subcommittee will hold a meeting on Friday, November 20 at 9:00 am at City Hall in the 4th Floor Conference Room. Both of these committees will discuss the respective strategies in the Downtown Master Plan. Description: Try your skill at a woodland scavenger hunt that takes you among the trees, logs and rocks along the Four Seasons trail. Clues to find an assortment of destinations are provided, with a prize available to those who excel at the search. Natural history knowledge will be beneficial but not essential for this moderately strenuous 2-hour program.

November 21 - Atlanta Boy Choir - Brevard College's Porter Center for Performing Arts will welcome the world-renowned Atlanta Boy Choir on Saturday, Nov. 21. The 7:30 p.m. performance will include works by Palestrina, Bach and Britten as well as traditional holiday carols and seasonal favorites. The Choir’s performance – a first for Brevard – is part of the College’s new mini “Discovery Series” that is designed to showcase young and upcoming artists. Tickets to the performance are $25 for adults and $10 for students. They may be purchased from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Porter Center Box Office.
