WNC Nature Center

The WNC Nature Center offers programs, demonstrations and "hands-on" activities for anyone who wishes to learn about the rich heritage of the Southern Appalachian Region.

The Nature Center is located on a 42-acre Natural Heritage site and offers diverse wildlife, gardens, trails, indoor exhibits and farm animals.

The Nature Center provides a home for injured, orphaned or imprinted animals that could not survive on their own; this facility is also one of 28 in the country participating in the red wolf re-introduction program.

The Nature Center was voted "best place to take kids" in Western North Carolina, but its not just for kids. Old and young alike will enjoy observing the butterfly garden, encountering the red wolf, mountain lions and bobcats, petting the farm animals, and exploring the interactive Nature Lab.
