In early 2012, under the direction of the Asheville ICE Steering Committee, a small group began meeting to create a capital fundraising campaign for an ice rink in Asheville.

Individuals will be able to see the actual site for the future ice rink on March 12th at noon. It will be located at Asheville Racquet Club – Downtown 1 Resort Drive, Asheville.

Their primary goal is to raise funds to build an ICE RINK in Asheville.  Our ad hoc fundraising committee realized that we had a need for professional input and assistance to help us have a successful campaign.

After comparing two consultant’s proposals, the Asheville Hockey Board approved hiring Sims & Steele Consulting to help guide us through the fundraising process.

I can’t wait to skate again in Asheville.  At this point, how can I help?

Two ways. First, help spread the word about this exciting project!  Here is the Asheville ICE message:

We have lived without year-round access to ice skating for too long and have an unprecedented opportunity – right now – to fill this void in our community.  That opportunity is called:

Asheville ICE: Bringing Ice Skating Back to the Mountains.

Time is of the essence. As part of its negotiations to purchase the rink from the City of Asheville, Asheville Hockey committed to having ice available again to the entire community within three years. The sale was completed in May 2011, meaning that the rink must be open no later than June 1, 2014.

With the backing of the city and the community, Asheville Hockey is in a unique position to repair the ice rink equipment, make the rink whole again, and bring this important resource back to the city’s residents and visitors.

ICE Annual Fund : Second, we will be planning an area-wide capital campaign to begin in the near future, but in the meantime we have project start-up costs and bills to pay.  We’d greatly appreciate everyone helping out by sending a check to Asheville Hockey League and earmarking for Asheville ICE Start-up on the memo line.  All start-up gifts will be counted toward your capital campaign giving, too. Please send donations to: Asheville Hockey – 14 Church Street, Asheville, NC 28801.  If you are interested in making a donation of appreciated stock, please contact Bill Hansen at 828-210-8980 for delivery instructions.
