College for Seniors at OLLI Registration Now Open

Registration for the nationally renowned College for Seniors is now open. The College for Seniors courses are offered by OLLI, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC Asheville.

The summer semester courses begin June 15, and the lineup contains new offerings and popular favorites, skills courses, and serious academic exploration.

Music buffs can trace the major currents of black vernacular music in “Spirituals, Hymns, and Gospel,” or explore the operas to be performed this summer by the young singers of the Brevard Music Center’s Janiec Opera Company in “Brevard Opera: Live at OLLI.”

Chiropractic neurologist Michael Trayford will lead, “Building a Better Brain,” a contemporary brain health series exploring how to better care for and improve brain function. In “Today’s Terrorists: Their Rise and United States’ Responses,” participants will gain a sense of the background of the early years of terrorist groups in Afghanistan and Pakistan, how and where terrorist groups later spread, and the effects of US foreign policies and military/intelligence responses to terrorists.

The full course catalog is available online at olliasheville.com. No tests or grades are given. Registration forms may be mailed to the Reuter Center or dropped off, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The cost for College for Seniors courses is $75 for an initial registration of up to three courses.  Add/drop begins Tuesday, June 2, at which time participants may add additional courses at no additional cost. The OLLI membership fee for the summer is $30, and membership benefits include a campus parking permit, access to the university library, discounts on special events and more.
