Tourists Stumble In Road Trip Finale

The road can be cruel and the Asheville Tourists found that out first hand by finishing up their seven-game road trip with only one win.

Wednesday night the Savannah Sand Gnats capped Asheville’s road swing with a 7-2 victory over the Tourists.

Savannah used a three-run third inning to propel them to a win. JC Rodriguez connected with a two-out RBI single and Wuilmer Beccera added an RBI double. The three runs were all the Sand Gnats needed as Casey Meisner cruised through seven innings.

Shane Hoelscher was able to square one up off Meisner in the fourth. The Tourists DH crushed a first pitch fastball over the left field wall for his second Home Run of the season. The Gnats third baseman Eudor Garcia countered with a two-run single in the fifth.

In the top of the sixth, Omar Carrizales singled with two outs. Carrizales promptly stole second then raced home on Luis Jean’s single to center. Savannah responded with a run in both the seventh and eighth innings. Ryan Castellani suffered the loss for the Tourists despite allowing only one earned run.

Asheville managed just 15 runs over the seven-game road trip; 11 of which came in two games. The good news for the Tourists is they will return to McCormick Field on Thursday to open a seven game homestand. Their opponents, the same two teams they just saw on the road; Augusta and Savannah.
