Fast Start Propels Asheville to 13-1 Win

On Sunday afternoon, the Asheville Tourists put the decision of their game against the Rome Braves to bed early.

Asheville hammered out 11 runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 13-1 win over Rome. The 11-run total is the most runs Asheville has scored in an individual inning all year.

Alec Grosser was a last minute fill-in for the Braves who originally planned to start Touki Toussant. Grosser was not ready for what was waiting for him. Omar Carrizales walked to begin the game and promptly scored on a Forrest Wall two-run Home Run.

Shane Hoelscher walked and scored on a Roberto Ramos double. Max White singled in Ramos, stole second, stole third, and scored on a Cesar Galvez RBI single. After Josh Fuentes was hit by a pitch, Ryan Stephens doubled home Galvez. Carrizales came back to the plate and singled in Fuentes. Wall added a sacrifice fly and after Hoelscher and Dom Nunez each reached, Ramos cleared the bases with a double.

The Tourists added one more in the third and another in the sixth when Nunez launched his 10th Home Run of the year. Rome had no answer for Jesus Tinoco who picked up his fourth win of the season by tossing five shutout innings. Tinoco lowered his season ERA to 0.96 through five starts.

All nine players in Asheville’s lineup scored at least once during the first inning outburst. Ramos and Stephens each finished with three hits on the afternoon.

Next up for Asheville is a four-game series with the Savannah Sand Gnats at McCormick Field. Tuesday’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
