The joint UNC Asheville / NC State University Mechatronics Engineering Program is offering a new opportunity for high school students interested in robotics.
No previous experience with robotics is necessary.
As part of this new program, high school students will learn to build, program and operate robots, working side-by-side with UNC Asheville mechatronics engineering students and faculty two afternoons a week this fall. In addition, UNC Asheville will for the first time host a FIRST Robotics team for high school students. Participants in the fall robotics program will have the opportunity to join that newly formed team and compete in the spring 2016 FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).
Robotics program participants will learn to design, prototype, build, program and compete with mini-robots using the same language and controller used in the FRC. Program activities also will include strategy and game-play, team-building, fundraising and community outreach. The group will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in the UNC Asheville Robotics Design Lab.
Interested high school students, parents and adult mentors should attend an informational meeting from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015 in UNC Asheville’s Karpen Hall, Laurel Forum. Participation in the program is free.
