Rubber Match Goes to the GreenJackets

The Asheville Tourists finished up their seven-game road trip in a tough way. The Tourists fell to the Augusta GreenJackets 10-2 in the series rubber match.

In the bottom of the third the GreenJackets took advantage of some aggressive base-running. Gustavo Cabrera legged out a one-out double on a groundball through the middle of the infield. Two batters later, Cabrera scored on Jalen Miller’s line drive single to left in which Miller took second on Sam Hilliard’s throw home. The next batter, Seth Harrison, singled in Miller from second base.

Hamlet Marte had an answer for the Tourists in the fourth. Asheville’s catcher launched a 2-0 fastball over the left field wall for his second Home Run of the season.

In the fifth, Augusta took control with three infield singles and a blooper single into left. When the inning finally ended, the GreenJackets had plated four runs and were able to knock Tourists starter Jack Wynkoop from the game. It was the first time this season Wynkoop was unable to pitch through the sixth inning.

The GreenJackets added two more in the sixth to take an 8-1 lead but in the eighth Marte delivered again for the Tourists. With Yonathan Daza at first, Marte doubled into the left-field corner. Daza scored on the play; however Marte was thrown out attempting to stretch his hit into a triple. In the bottom of the eighth, Augusta played two more runs; both of which were unearned

With the loss the Tourists dipped below .500 for the season; however they still finished their seven-game road trip with a winning record.
