YMCA of North Carolina Hosting Hula Invitational Swim Meet

The YMCA of Western North Carolina will host its 13th annual Hula Invitational swim meet Friday, May 27th, through Sunday, May 29th.

Two hundred and fifty swimmers from throughout the Southeast—including ten YMCA teams—will compete at Asheville’s Recreation Park Pool, located at 69 Gashes Creek Road. Competitors will have the opportunity to meet qualification standards for state, regional, and national level competitions. All proceeds from the meet will benefit the YMCA of Western North Carolina’s Piranhas swim team.

The Piranhas swim team serves over 170 children, ages 6 through 18, from Buncombe, Henderson, McDowell, and Madison counties. Swimmers learn both the fundamentals and higher level skills of competitive swimming and the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

In addition to offering all swimmers a chance to compete, this year’s Hula Invitational is partnering with the Special Olympics to provide an avenue for local special needs athletes to participate in organized sports.

The event is free and open to spectators.
