New Outdoor Equipment Rental Shop GEARU is Now Open

GEARU is set to shake up Asheville’s outdoor recreation scene by bringing its revolutionary approach to gear access to Western North Carolina.

Utilizing a gear membership program, GEARU will make the equipment necessary to enjoy the N.C. mountains much more accessible, without the typical costs involved. Doors are now open to the public.

Ryan Lansche created GEARU to overcome some of the biggest problems with outdoor access in Western North Carolina. “Asheville’s backyard is an endless playground of mountains and rivers, yet so many people who live here have never had the opportunity to float down a remote stretch of the river or fly down a secluded, rolling mountain bike trail — simply because they cannot afford the equipment to participate in all of these activities,” says Lansche. “Our goal is to give people access to the best outdoor equipment around, without the extreme costs that are usually involved. Additionally, our members can avoid storage, maintenance and gear envy year after year.”

Unlike many of the outdoor-related businesses in Asheville, GEARU is not focused on the tourists. GEARU is a gear membership program designed by locals, for locals. The idea is simple — sign up for a weekend, month or year membership, and gain access to top of the line mountain bikes, kayaks, SUP boards and all of the accessories that accompany those activities. That’s what a GEARU membership is all about.

GEARU offers different levels of membership passes, depending on how hard you want to play:

– Day Pass: $50
– 3-day pass: $60
– Month Membership: $75
– Annual Pass: $50/month

GEARU will be opening its doors for a grand opening at 515 Short McDowell Street on July 31 at 11 a.m. Come join for live music, food and drinks, along with free gear rentals all day.
