NC Stage Launches New After-School Programs

NC Stage is launching two new classes this fall: its Classical Theatre Course for eighth through twelfth graders and its Create–A–Play Course for first through fourth graders.

The Classical Theatre course will be offered for 8th – 12th grade students. This class will delve into the “how to’s” of classical texts: How to read the text, how to approach the role, how to portray characters using archetypes, etc. This applied script analysis course will help you learn the tools to take on material from the Greeks to Shakespeare to Moliere. This nine-week class will be offered from 4-5:30 on Mondays, Sept. 12th – Nov. 14th and will be taught by Equity actor Catori Swann.

The “Create-A-Play” class will be offered for 1st – 4th grades. Students will discover the building blocks of theatre through games, group work, and basic theatre techniques! You’ll learn how to use the body and voice to create a character and transport yourself into the play. The class concludes with an original play written by the students and performed for parents on the last day of class. This nine-week class will be offered from 4-5:30 on Mondays, Sept. 12th – Nov. 14th.
