Climate Change Experts Offer Talks at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

Experts in the field of climate science will present in a series of lectures on climate change hosted by OLLI, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC Asheville.

This series takes place Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m., beginning Feb. 1, in UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center. All lectures are free and open to the public.

Feb. 1 – David Easterling, who has authored more than 60 research articles on climate change and was a lead author of the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Assessment Report, will present “The National Centers for Environmental Information and Climate Change.”

Feb. 8 – Jim Fox, director of UNC Asheville’s NEMAC (National Environmental Modeling at Analysis Center) will present “Climate Resilience in Asheville, NC—Moving from ‘Did you know?’ to ‘What can we do about it?’” NEMAC has played a role in developing the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit, online at toolkit.climate.gov.

March 1 – James McMahon, CEO of The Collider in Asheville, will present “Accelerating Climate Change.” McMahon has been a consultant and small business COO and CEO, and as CEO of the The Collider, he leads a nonprofit innovation center focused on catalyzing market-driven climate solutions.
