Shutout Win Concludes First Half of Tourists’ Season

The Asheville Tourists knocked off the Augusta GreenJackets 3-0 to finish off the first half of their 2017 South Atlantic League schedule.

The victory was Asheville’s fifth shutout win of the season and snapped a four-game losing skid.

Alejandro Requena was untouchable in his 13th start of the season. The all-star tossed eight innings and limited the GreenJackets to only three hits. Requena struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Julian Fernandez notched his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Offensively, Asheville manufactured a run in the fourth. Max George and Collin Ferguson executed a first and third double-steal attempt that allowed George to cross home plate. In the top of the ninth, Taylor Snyder and Jose Gomez drilled RBI singles to provide some additional run support.

Augusta’s Stephen Woods worked seven frames and limited Asheville to one run on six hits. The Tourists finished with ten hits in the game, one from every position player who took the field.
