Hangover Effect; Asheville Tourists Fall 8-1

The Asheville Tourists dropped a tough game to the Rome Braves, 8-1, one night after battling Rome for 17 innings. Asheville was outhit 15-2 and committed three costly errors in the loss.

Joey Wentz was once again unhittable for the Braves. Wentz picked up his third win in his last three starts against the Tourists. The left-hander tossed six innings of one-hit baseball and his only blemish was an unearned run that Asheville plated in the top of the first.

After Willie Abreu reached on an error, Bobby Wernes doubled him over to third. Vince Fernandez capitalized with an RBI groundout to give Asheville a brief 1-0 lead. Rome answered with a run in the bottom of the first. Carlos Martinez singled in Cristian Pache from second to tie the game.

The Braves added three runs in the third, two more in the fourth, and another two in the fifth. Rico Garcia suffered the loss in his first start for Asheville. Garcia lasted three innings and surrendered four runs, three earned. Logan Longwith made his Tourists debut and pitched three innings in relief of Garcia. Longwith gave up four runs but all four were unearned.

Taylor Snyder was the only other Tourists player to record a base hit. Snyder hit a two-out single in the top of the eighth inning.
