Tourists Blast GreenJackets in Series Finale

Entering Sunday afternoon’s contest against the Augusta GreenJackets, the Asheville Tourists were well aware of the fact they were still without a home day game win this season (0-11).

That is no longer the case. The Tourists dominated the GreenJackets for an 11-2 victory.

Asheville plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second on a Jacob Bosiokovic two-run single. In the third, the Tourists used an RBI base hit from Bobby Wernes and RBI bases-loaded walks by Joel Diaz and Max George. They added another run on a wild pitch and led 6-1 after three.

Vince Fernandez blew the game open with a three-run Home Run in the fourth. George added a solo Home Run in the fifth, and Diaz capped the scoring with an RBI double in the seventh. All nine Tourists players reached base at least twice.

Antonio Santos spearheaded the pitching effort with a six inning performance. Santos allowed one run, a Cristian Paulino solo Home Run, and only three hits en route to picking up his eighth win of the season.

The Tourists worked a season-high eight walks in the game and pounded out a total of 14 hits. Diaz finished 3-for-4 while Wernes, Bosiokovic, and Tyler Nevin all finished with two hits. Yordy Cabrera suffered the loss for the visitors. The starting pitcher only lasted two innings.
