Experience "Naqoyqatsi: Life as War" at the Asheville Art Museum May 10 - 11

The Asheville Art Museum will screen the experimental documentary film "Naqoyqatsi: Life as War" on Saturday and Sunday, May 10 + 11, 2008 starting at 2:00 p.m. each day.

This 2002 work features no words or commentary, but instead uses the music of Philip Glass and computer-manipulated images to comment on the war of daily living. "Naqoyqatsi: Life as War" is the final film in a trilogy which began with "Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance" and "Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation".

“Naqoyqatsi IS filmmaking at its purest and most visceral – a tale full of sound and visual fury,” said Washington Post Staff Writer Michael O'Sullivan. “(Director) Godfrey Reggio has given us a work of art whose meaning, while obscure, enters our heads and our hearts through strangely beautiful, yet unintelligible channels.”

This screening is free to Museum Members or guests with Museum admission. It is held in conjunction with the exhibition Time is of the Essence: Contemporary Landscape Art, which will be on view at the Asheville Art Museum through June 22, 2008. Call 828.253.3227 for more information.
