Sign Up Now for Summer Art Camp at the Asheville Art Museum


Just because the school year is over, arts education does not have to go on summer hiatus. The Asheville Art Museum is offering Summer Art Camps to rising kindergarten through 12th grade students.

Summer Art Camp classes will be held in June 9 — August 1, 2008 in the bright and spacious studio of the WNC Art Resource Center and each class will visit the Museum’s galleries to inspire their creativity.

Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required.

Students may sign up for morning, afternoon or all day Summer Art Camp sessions. Registration includes admission to the Museum and all materials necessary for each class. All-day students will have a supervised lunch break.

Summer Art Camp costs (each week):

    Five-day sessions:
    Morning: (9:00 a.m. — 12:30 p.m.) or Afternoon (1:30 — 5:00 p.m.)
    Members: $85
    Non Members: $95

    All Day: (9:00 a.m. — 5:00 p.m.)
    Members: $140
    Non Members: $160

    Four-day session: June 30 — July 3
    Morning: (9:00 a.m. — 12:30 p.m.) or Afternoon (1:30 — 5:00 p.m.)
    Members: $70
    Non-Members: $80

    All Day: (9:00 a.m. —5:00 p.m.)

Summer Art Camp class dates and descriptions:
  • June 9 — June 13, 2008

    Arts Extravaganza: Morning session, 9:00 a.m. — 12:30 p.m., K —2nd graders
    For the child who wants to try it all, the mixed media class provides an opportunity to explore a variety of drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.

    Mixed Up and Messy: Afternoon session, 1:30 — 5:00 p.m., K—2nd graders
    Students will explore the limitless possibilities of drawing, painting and creating texture to create their own masterpieces.

  • June 16 — June 20, 2008

    Mixed Media: Morning session, 9:00 a.m. — 12:30 p.m., 6th — 8th graders
    Students will with a variety of media and surface techniques on paper and fabric and combine processes together to create finished works of art.

    Drawing and Printmaking: Afternoon session, 1:30 — 5:00 p.m., 6th — 8th graders
    Students will explore drawing techniques including observation and contour drawing. Students will take their drawings and turn them into prints using various printing processes that will result in unique, one-of-a kind works of art.

  • June 30 — July 3, 2008

    Art Adventure: Morning session, 9:00 a.m. —12:30 p.m., K—2nd graders
    Students will explore line and shape to design one-of-a-kind creations using a variety of materials and their imaginations.

    The Color Show: Afternoon session, 1:30 — 5:00 p.m., K — 2nd graders
    Students will explore the world of color by experimenting with different paint and surface techniques to create works of art.

  • July 7 — July 11, 2008

    3-D Adventure: Morning session, 9:00 a.m. — 12:30 p.m., 3rd —5th graders
    Students will combine line and shape to create 3-D objects throughout the week.

    Drawing and Painting: Afternoon session, 1:30 — 5:00 p.m., 3rd — 5th graders
    Students will experiment with different drawing and painting materials to create an array of art.

  • July 14 — July 18, 2008

    Mixed-Media Madness: Morning session, 9:00 a.m. — 12:30 p.m., K — 2nd graders
    Students will experiment with a range of materials to create unique artwork.

    3-D Adventure: Afternoon session, 1:30 p.m. — 5:00 pm, K—2nd graders
    Students will use their imaginations to combine line and shape to create 3-D objects throughout the week.

  • July 21 — July 25, 2008

    Drawing & Painting: Morning session, 9:00 a.m. — 12:30 p.m., 9th — 12th graders
    Students will explore design and composition with a variety of materials including charcoal, graphite, pastels, watercolor and acrylic to create individual works of art.

    Mixed Media: Afternoon session, 1:30 p.m. — 5:00 p.m., 9th —12th graders
    Students will use an array of materials and experiment with surface techniques including collage, photography and printmaking to create one-of-a-kind works of art.

  • July 28 — August 1, 2008

    Arts Extravaganza: Morning session, 9:00 a.m. — 12:30 p.m., 3rd — 5th graders
    Students will use their imaginations to explore a variety of media and surface techniques to create original 2-D and 3-D creations.

    Cartooning is Cool: Afternoon session, 1:30 p.m. — 5:00 p.m., 3rd — 5th graders
    Students will learn the basic mechanics of drawing strip and single-frame cartoons to create several finished works.

  • Pack Place Potpourri
    June 23 — June 27
    Special all day sessions, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Cost: $200
    Students will spend the week sampling the “the greatest hits” of Pack Place. Make robots, catapults, parachutes and even slime while learning about the science of toys at The Health Adventure. Mine for gems, hunt for fossils, blast off into space, explore dinosaurs and enjoy more activities at the Colburn Earth Science Museum. Draw, paint, sculpt at more at the Asheville Art Museum.
