Dance lovers are in for a treat on Saturday, February 20, when the Moscow Festival Ballet brings their acclaimed touring version of "Swan Lake" to Asheville."Swan Lake", one of Tchaikovsky’s finest compositions, first appeared in 1877, and has since come to be regarded as one of the finest ballets ever composed. This tale of Prince Siegfried’s love for the beautiful Odette, who has been turned into a swan by the evil von Rothbart has enthralled viewers since its introduction, and now local audiences will be able to see the Moscow Festival Ballet’s classical production of the show. The Moscow Festival Ballet was founded in 1989 when legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet Sergei Radchenko sought to realize his vision of a company which would bring together the highest classical elements of the great Bolshoi and Kirov Ballet companies in an independent new company within the framework of Russian classic ballet. Leading dancers from across Russia have come together under Radchenko's direction to solidify the reputation and quality of this company and their new productions of timeless classics. “We have brought the Moscow Festival Ballet to Asheville several times since they began touring in the 1990’s,” Bravo’s Executive Director Tracey Johnston-Crum said, “and they never fail to deliver a fantastic and exciting performance.” The show will undoubtedly prove to be a treat for all ages, and a great celebration of the classic story of "Swan Lake". Tickets are $20-55 and can be purchased by calling the Asheville Bravo Concerts office at (828) 225-5887, visiting www.ticketmaster.com, or in person at the Civic Center Box Office.
