The Asheville City Schools Foundation will present the Tour of Excellence on Thursday, February 18th from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Participants will meet at Asheville High for a light breakfast and then take a school bus to three sites where the ACS Foundation has implemented innovative programs that address challenges facing our schools. Tour participants will see programs at Hall Fletcher Elementary School, Asheville Middle School and Asheville High School.“This is a great opportunity to gain a first-person experience of programs that address the achievement gap, help students become 21st century prepared, and address, through education, childhood obesity,” said ACS Foundation Co-Director Leah Ferguson. Program highlights from this year’s Tour include a SMARTT car built by Asheville High students, an overview and full report from the Listening to Our Teens project and a community-wide collaboration to encourage healthy eating. “Last year’s Tour showcased exciting and inspiring educational opportunities in our Asheville City Schools. I am pleased to now be a part of supporting the mission of the ACS Foundation. I serve on the public relations committee at the Foundation and enjoy the opportunity to support public education,” said Peggy Weil, who participated in last year’s Tour of Excellence. To RSVP for the Tour of Excellence email acsf@acsf.org or call (828) 350-6134. The Asheville City Schools Foundation is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to the educational success of all Asheville City Schools students.
