Buncombe County is Looking for Special Olympic Cheerleaders, Sign Up by September 7


Buncombe County Special Olympics cheerleaders, coaches and parent/guardians will have their first meeting and practice on Tuesday, September 7 at 6 p.m. at the Zeugner Center in Arden. All subsequent practices will be held on Tuesdays at the same location from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Practices will continue until March when the team will be competing in the State Games.

Any eligible person with a desire to learn cheerleading is invited to sign up and join the Buncombe County team. Special Olympic Cheerleaders are a precision team that competes in local and state competitions.

In addition to competing in the State Games, the squad will be demonstrating their routines at Family Fun Day at Carrier Park on September 11, The Buddy Walk at Fletcher Park on October 9 and the Mayors Committee Meeting on October 19.

The training is rigorous but the rewards are huge. No experience is necessary. There is no charge to athletes who participate in Special Olympics.

All athletes must have a complete and current physical and release forms on file in order to participate. Call Grace Young by Tuesday, August 31 to verify that all paperwork is current.
