An Owen Middle School student will represent North Carolina next month at the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C.
Taylor Morris of Owen Middle recently won the North Carolina National Geographic Bee held in Raleigh. As the state winner, the National Geographic Society will fly Taylor to the national contest, scheduled for May 19-22. The competition will be hosted by television celebrity Alex Trebek. Thousands of elementary and middle schools across the country participate in the National Geographic Bee. The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their lessons, ignite student interest in the subject, and increase public awareness about geography. The final round of the 2008 National Geographic Bee will air nationally on the National Geographic Channel on May 21 and later on public television stations.
