Bele Chere presents: "The Year of Surprises," July 29-31


The South's ultimate entertainment, arts and food immersion, the Bele Chere Festival, presents its 27th annual celebration of creativity, July 29 - 31, 2005, under the theme the "Year of Surprises." The festival is one of North Carolina's signature cultural arts events, drawing more than 350,000 visitors to Asheville, NC, one the south's most vibrant cities, rich in arts, entertainment, and heritage located in the majestic North Carolina Mountains. The outdoor event offers a unique opportunity to appreciate music and art while taking in the region's finest cuisines and musicians. The best part of the event, it's FREE!

Step into downtown Asheville in July to awaken your senses and mind with various forms of art, outstanding music and the aroma of great food. Festival-goers are expected to enjoy almost 30 hours of live entertainment on six stages featuring every genre from jazz and country to rhythm and blues and zydeco. Among the top performers already included in this year's line-up are John Hiatt featuring member of the North Mississippi Allstars, The Marshall Tucker Band, Sam Bush, Susan Tedeschi, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Drive-by Truckers, Xavier Rudd, Dottie Peoples, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and many more to be announced in the coming weeks. This year, Bele Chere will also pay close attention to the amazing talent prevalent in the Western North Carolina music scene. More additions are to be announced in the coming weeks. Bele Chere is proud to continue this great summer tradition of presenting a free arts and entertainment event to the masses.

Not only has the Bele Chere Board of Directors provided a top-notch event for everyone to enjoy, but they have committed themselves to making this year surpass all expectations. To show their dedication to produce a unique event, they have established the "Year of Surprises" as the foundation to achieve an extraordinary experience at this year's festival. Each committee, whether it be children's, events, entertainment or logistics, is responsible for developing a surprise that will unfold on-site during the three-day festival. The concept was put together to foster creativity and involve participants in the overall atmosphere all while entertaining, astonishing and positively impacting the community. Look for surprises around every corner, spanning from the superbly sublime to completely outrageous. Bele Chere's "Year of Surprises" an experience not to be missed!

If all that excitement makes you hungry, you'll find food in plentiful quantities and unlimited varieties. At Bele Chere, you'll find food to please even the most discriminating palate and delight the biggest sweet tooth. Food booths feature mountain cuisine as well as Greek, Italian, Scottish, Chinese, Mexican, and other delicacies - a truly world class culinary extravaganza. Plus, you can sample specialties from some of downtown Asheville's finest restaurants at a Taste of Asheville presented by PSNC Energy.

Don't think for a moment that we haven't thought about the kids! This year, the excitement is abundant and the surprises are many! Bele Chere's children's area presented by Food Lion will feature Tiny Town which should impress even the most colorful imagination. Kids will take a stroll through Tiny Town stopping at the town bakery for some delicious treats, City Hall, the music store to make and play an instrument and their favorite toy store, all leading to non-stop fun. From a gigantic slide and whirling merry-go-round to games, crafts, and entertainment, kids are sure to enjoy their Bele Chere experience.
