Blue Ridge Community College Presents "Great Books Discussion Group" on January 11

Blue Ridge Community College will again offer the Great Books Discussion Group during Spring Semester. Beginning on Monday, January 11 the group will meet from 2 to 4 p.m. on second and fourth Mondays through April 12. Sessions will be in the President's Dining Room in the Killian Building.

Engage in the "Great Conversation" with some of the most probing minds of the Western tradition. There will be no lectures, no experts. Instead Great Books asks the question, "Why does the author say this?" and then the group, through a process of shared inquiry in which everyone may participate, proceeds to search for answers. Jim and Carol Ward will be facilitators for the spring series.

Volumes prepared by the Great Books Foundation contain a number of selections by authors from the Western tradition of which some are complete works and others are excerpts. The text for the spring series is Great Books First Series available for purchase at the college bookstore. Participants should study Rothschild's Fiddle by Anton Chekhov before the first session. No registration is required.

This program is sponsored by the Community Enrichment Department in the Continuing Education Division. For more information contact Martha Howell at (828) 694-1743 or at [email protected].
