Pack Library to Close Until Fall this Saturday

For more than 125 years the public library has been an integral part of community life. They offer the traditional public library menu of services, including lending books, tapes, videos and other materials, providing reference and reader's advisory services, and programming for both children and adults.

Due to an ongoing renovation project, Pack Memorial Library will close to the public at 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 13. The library will remain closed for 6-8 months and will reopen in the fall of 2010. A temporary public computer center will open on the library’s lower level in March.

The library’s renovation will include a larger children’s and youth section, an added meeting room, a relocation and expansion of the North Carolina Collection and more computer access.

A three-story tower with fire exits and restrooms will be added to the north side of the building. In addition, all the lighting, heating and cooling and electrical systems will be completely upgraded with more energy efficient replacements.

While Pack Library is closed, library patrons can use any of the other 11 branches in the library system.

Patrons can also download books and audio books directly from the library’s website.
