ECO Seniors Club Looking for Energetic Retirees Interested in Environmental Issues

Are you an energetic retiree interested in environmental issues? Would you like to meet with likeminded folks to discuss ideas and do projects? If so, come to a meeting of a new group – the ECO Seniors Club. The group plans to meet weekly on Wednesdays in the conference room at the office of the Environmental and Conservation Organization (ECO) at 121 Third Avenue West in downtown Hendersonville. Newcomers are invited. If there is sufficient interest, and/or significant inquiries from seniors in Asheville, Brevard, or nearby locations, ECO Seniors Clubs may also be formed in those towns.

Bill Sare, a recent retiree and an ECO volunteer, proposed the idea of the Seniors Club to the board of ECO in November. Sare will host the meeting and participants will create the plan for future meetings and project goals.

“I contend that ECO has a tremendous untapped potential resource in the retirement population of Hendersonville,” Sare said. “As a newcomer to the retirement scene, I have been smitten by the dynamics of our so-called ‘retirees.’ I have observed that a great portion of those between 55 and 75 are a veritable gold mine of still vibrant life. And many of these men and women are interested in the environment.”

The purpose of the club, according to Bill’s proposal, is to “enhance the dynamics of ECO by engaging the great resource of our retirement community.”

For more information or to host a similar meeting in your town, phone the ECO office at 828-692-0385.

ECO is dedicated to preserving the natural heritage of Henderson County and the mountain region through EDUCATION, RECREATION, SERVICE, and CIVIC ACTION. Visit www.eco-wnc.org for more info.
