Beginning November 15th, the "Strong and Courageous" wrestling club will meet regularly on Thursdays from 7:00 - 8:30 at Eliada. Boys of all ages are welcome to join the renowned program coached by Norm Osteen, whose expertise and guidance is behind the victories of hundreds of high school state champions, 541 All American wrestlers, and 3 Olympians, including the first American female wrestler to win an Olympic medal.
The "Strong and Courageous" program began in 1989. Osteen wrestled in high school, college, and the Air Force, later accepting coaching positions for middle and high school teams. His coaching resume is impressive, and includes helping introduce Greco-Roman wrestling to Puerto Rico. When he returned to Western North Carolina, he felt that the region lacked a strong wrestling program. He also wanted an opportunity to share the Christian faith with young people. Thus, "Strong and Courageous" was born. Since that time, Coach Osteen has built a roster of success that leads students from as far away as Boone, Greenville, Robbinsville, Rock Hill, and North Georgia to travel to our area to train with him. Registration and an information session for parents will be held in the Eliada Chapel on Thursday, November 6 from 6:00- 6:30 pm. The cost to join the club is $65. Students 8th grade and younger will be eligible for winter matches, though the program is open to boys of all ages.
