The Legacy Continues: SHCG New Members Exhibition at the Folk Art Center Main Gallery

Becoming a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild is no easy task. The first criteria for membership is living in one of the mountain counties of the Southern Appalachians. The states represented follow the mountain range from Maryland to Alabama.

Once residence is established, the artist's work goes through a rigorous jury process. The work is critiqued by members of the Guild who are experts in their specific medium. Artisans are selected based on the high quality of design and craftsmanship reflected in their work.

The Southern Higland Craft Guild is an educational, non-profit organization founded in 1930 for the purpose of creating a network and market for mountain craftspeople. Today, Guild membership stands at more than 900 artisans.
