Explore Expectant Gaze with the Asheville Art Museum Docents on March 28

Come learn about the Asheville Art Museum’s permanent collection with a tour of the exhibition Expectant Gaze — Art from the Eye and Mind guided by a member of the Asheville Art Museum Docents on Friday, March 28 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

This fall Roger Manley, a North Carolina based filmmaker, folklorist and writer, guest curated the latest installation of the Museum’s permanent collection with images chosen to probe what he calls art’s two oldest and most essential functions: rendering the visual world and envisioning new possibilities for experiencing it.

The Asheville Art Museum Docents are dedicated volunteers who meet regularly to learn about art and serve as tour guides and educators for Museum visitors.

During the March 28th Art Break, a docent will talk with Museum guests about the work on display and how it relates to the theme Manley chose for this intriguing exhibition.

In January 2008, the Asheville Art Museum began hosting a series of Friday lunchtime talks and presentations designed to engage visitors with the Museum’s curatorial, education departments and other special guests.

Each Art Break begins at 12:00 p.m. and is free with Museum membership or with Museum admission.

“This is an opportunity to have a guided tour of specific areas of the Museum whether you are here for an extended visit or on a lunch break,” said Asheville Art Museum Adult Programs Manager Nancy Sokolove. “Sometimes it is nice to discuss works on view with a curator or another knowledgeable member of the Museum staff.”
