The Asheville Parks and Recreation Department will hold registration for its popular Inline Hockey league today, August 14, from 6-8 PM at the roller hockey rink at French Broad River Park IV on Amboy Road and Michigan Avenue. Five youth age group divisions and two adult skill level divisions are available.
Registration fees for the Inline Hockey league are as follows: Youth $50 Asheville City resident, $55 non-city resident; Adult $55 Asheville City resident, $65 non-city resident. All players must provide their own hockey safety equipment.
Players of all skill levels are encouraged to join in the fun Ė even people who have never played before, but find they have an interest in learning, are welcome to join the league and participate.
Registration fees include a team jersey and a 10-game regular season. Volunteer coaches are being recruited; youth coaches will attend a training/orientation session prior to the player draft on Thursday, August 21.
A mandatory skill evaluation session for youth players will be held on Saturday, August 16 (make-up date is Monday, August 18, rain date is Tuesday, August 19). All evaluations will be held at the rink at the French Broad River Park. Any youth player who does not attend one of the evaluations will not be assigned to a team. Evaluation times are 9-10 AM for ages 8 and under, 10-11 AM for 10 and under, 11 AM-12 PM for 12 and under, 12-1 PM for 14 and under, and 1-2 PM for 17 and under.
Youth team practices begin August 30; adult team practices are scheduled for September 3 and 6. The regular season will run from September 10 through November 13 (adults) and September 20 through November 15 (youth). An end of the season youth tournament is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, November 22.
