Moving Boxes Available for Free

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle your moving boxes. Pick some up or drop some off at the Buncombe County Transfer Station. Several years ago, the county partnered with Beverly Hanks Realty to begin a moving box reuse program. This program continues to be a success, and we have boxes that have been moving people in our community for years.

Residents can drop off clean, flattened moving boxes at the Buncombe County Transfer Station, located at 190 Hominy Creek Road in Asheville. The Transfer Station is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The boxes are placed in a storage building where other residents can come and pick them up for free. Please remember - this program is ONLY for cardboard moving boxes. All boxes should be empty, clean, usable, and flattened. We do NOT accept packing peanuts or moving paper in this program.

Boxes that are no longer usable can be recycled at the curb, the drop-off recycling centers, the Transfer Station, or the Landfill. Please break down and flatten boxes for recycling.
