People parking in Asheville’s municipal garages will see big improvements over the next several months. Starting later this month and continuing through September, the city’s Civic Center, Rankin Avenue, and Wall Street parking garages will undergo repairs and equipment renovation. The updates will improve customer service and extend the life of the facilities.
Good news for downtown visitors: the new equipment will allow customers to enter and exit more easily and will allow more options for payment. All three parking garages will get new parking access and revenue control systems equipment – the gates, ticket dispensers, pay-in-lane machines, etc. The replacement work will require occasional, temporary changes to entrances and exits from the garages. The Civic Center parking garage will also receive a major restoration and repairs to the parking surfaces and stairwells, including new surface coatings, waterproofing, and repainted stripes. The work at the Civic Center garage should be completed prior to Bele Chere this summer. During all repairs and renovation, motorists should expect traffic flow changes and some spaces to be blocked off at times. Parking Services will attempt to minimize the disruption to customers. For people who need long-term parking, space is still available on surface lots near the Civic Center. For more information, contact Parking Services at (828) 259-5792.
