RiverLink Acquires Historic 18-Acre Property on Asheville's Urban Riverfront.

RiverLink, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the economic and environmental revitalization of the French Broad River, has announced the acquisition of Day Warehouse and Storage. The significance of this acquisition is tremendous, as it will serve as an anchor site for future economic development along the urban river corridor.

Currently, the property is occupied by several different tenants. RiverLink will assume the role of landlord to these tenants, and will honor existing agreements.

Laura Webb, chairperson of RiverLink's Board of Directors, described the acquisition as "an historic moment in the life of this community." Ms. Webb added, "RiverLink's purchase of the Day Warehouses signifies the growing commitment in this city to make the French Broad a vital piece of our community fabric and the center of sustainable growth and economic development."

Karen Cragnolin, Executive Director of RiverLink, said, "This acquisition was made possible by the generous support and financing of the current owners and a donation by Bradford G. Stanback and Shelli Lodge-Stanback." Cragnolin further noted that the sale of the warehouse site "represents far more than a simple land transaction. It is a powerful statement on the part of the Day family that we have entered into a new era in the life of this river and community and that they, as long time residents and business owners, fully support a revitalized riverfront."

Currently, Asheville's riverfront is in a transitional phase. Future plans for this scenic area include "smart" development that will provide not only additional employment, but also recreational and residential opportunities. Given Asheville's love of historic preservation, this area of town will be redesigned, using existing buildings as much as possible, to include space for business development and residential units, as well as greenways for the scenic enjoyment of Asheville's residents and visitors alike.
