Here is a quick review off all the resorts that WNC has to offer:

Appalachian Ski Mountain

Appalachian Ski Mountain Is Your 1st Resort For Family Fun! Skiing since 1962, the High Country’s 1st ski area is still the mountain of choice for skiers of all ages and abilities. With 10 slopes, 3 terrain parks and a panoramic outdoor ice arena, there is an adventure waiting for every member of the family, even if your idea of adventure is shopping or dining slopeside by a roaring fire. With a season lasting from mid-November to April, Appalachian also offers night skiing seven nights a week. For more information click here.

Cataloochee Ski Area

This winter playground is nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks—riding the chairlift has never been more rewarding. Smooth, gentle slopes like Easy Way and Rabbit Hill, serviced by a beginner’s chairlift, gives novices the elbowroom they need to learn the basics and practice their skills. Intermediate skiers and snowboarders find plenty of action on Rock Island Run and Lower Omigosh, while seasoned experts can face the challenge of Upper Omigosh. For skiers and snowboarders looking for a thrill, the Cat Cage Terrain Park delivers with ramps, rails and boxes. At Cataloochee, everyone in the family, skiers and snowboarders, from novice to veteran, can carve a place of their own. For more information click here.

Ski Beech

Ski Beech's Village Shops offer the best "feel" of all of the resorts in North Carolina. The Village includes the View Haus Cafeteria, Ski Rental Shop, Snowsport Learning Center, Youth Learning Center, Beech Village Gifts, Ski Beech Sports Shop, Demo Center, Ski Repair, Beech Tree Restaurant, The Red Baron Room, Snowboard Rentals and more! Beech also features a 7,000-square-foot outdoor ice skating rink with the best atmosphere in the region. The rink is located right in the middle of the Beech Tree Village and offers a perfect way to round out your winter vacation. For more information click here.

Sapphire Valley Ski Area

The Sapphire Valley Ski Area & Frozen Falls Tube Park is an integral part of a 5,700-acre, four-season resort nestled in the pristine Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The average elevation is 3,600 feet. Our ski resort consists of The Sapphire Streamliner, our 1,600-foot main run with a vertical drop of 200 feet, featuring our brand new state-of-the-art Quad Lift. New this year is Frozen Falls Snow Tub Park, a 700-foot, multilane snow tube hill with a vertical drop of 70 feet! In keeping with the natural serenity of Sapphire Valley, lift lines are short, thus providing the perfect setting for families seeking quality time. For more information click here.

Sugar Mountain

Sugar Mountain is the largest ski area in North Carolina by about 20 acres (total of 115 acres of skiable terrain). Sugar is located in the beautiful Village of Sugar Mountain, right off of Hwy 184. Sugar Mountain also boasts the largest vertical drop (1200 feet) in the state. The popular mountain offers some great stay-and-play ski packages with area lodging companies. Wolf Ridge Ski Resort

Wolf Ridge Ski Resort is a family-oriented resort that has undergone perhaps the largest growth and changes in North Carolina. In addition to a name change (they were formerly known as Wolf Laurel Ski Area), the resort has expanded this year with 15 additional acres of ski terrain, a new Quad Lift and a new Terrain Park. That 15 additional acres takes Wolf Ridge Ski Resort to 82 total acres of terrain on which to ride! For more information click here.
