Smith-McDowell House Museum will host Hands-On-History Summer Camps, a fun, history-oriented day camp for 2nd through 5th graders on the grounds of Asheville’s oldest surviving home, a restored circa 1840 mansion. Camps will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students will make heritage crafts, play period games, make homemade ice cream, handle historic objects, explore historic structures, and more
Camp I in June will be June 16 – 20 and June 23 – 27. Daily themes include Victorian Life, Civil War, The 60’s, Appalachian Celebration and Art History. Camp II in July will be July 7 – 11 and 14 – 18. Daily themes include Explorers and Archaeology, Pirates, The Cherokee, World Wars One and Two, and Old Timey Schooling. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. The cost is $65 for Museum members and $80 for non-members.
