Cheap energy has fueled the production and consumption systems which
provide the basic resources communities depend upon for survival. The
challenge of Peak Oil will require us to rethink the current system and come up
with alternatives that use less energy. Among these alternatives will be a focus
on localizing many of the skills communities need to maintain community well-
being - like growing and preserving food, crafting tools and repairing rather than
replacing things. This program will discuss energy use and Peak Oil and how designing for community resilience can guide community-based projects aimed at adapting to the twin challenge of Peak Oil and Climate Change. Students from Warren Wilson College will also present an Energy Descent Action Plan for the WWC campus as an example of a Transition Initiative project for building community resilience. This program will be presented twice: Wednesday, March 31st 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm Ransom Fellowship Hall, Warren Wilson College Friday, March 26th 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Riceville Community Center, 2251 Riceville Rd, Asheville
