TheatreUNCA will stage the Naomi Wallace drama “The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek” February 24-28 at UNC Asheville’s Carol Belk Theater. Curtain is 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee. All shows are open to the public.“The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek” tells the story of two teenagers living in the midst of the Great Depression, in a town so dull the only thing they can pit themselves against is an on-coming train. They give purpose to their lives through their plan to outrun the train as it approaches the trestle. This haunting and intimate coming-of-age tale is told in a non-linear style, moving back and forth between past and present to create an interwoven tale of teenagers wrapped up in a romantic and tragic mystery. The production is directed by UNC Asheville Assistant Professor of Drama Lise Kloeppel. The UNC Asheville student cast includes freshman Hollis Anderson; junior John Coggin; sophomore Garrett Funk; junior Kirby Gibson and freshman Bradley Mercier. Designers include Rob Berls on technical and set; Rob Bowen on sound; senior George Martinat on costumes and senior Brian Quinn on lighting. Tickets for all performances are $10 general admission, $8 for senior citizens and $5 for students. Because of the intimate size of UNC Asheville's Carol Belk Theatre and the often heavy demand for tickets, advance purchase is strongly advised.
