Each Good Friday, BeLoved Asheville leads a procession to explore who is being crushed & crucified today in our city & world. A People’s Stations of the cross uses Jesus’ walk to the cross as a modern spiritual exploration of the systems of death that pervade our world including the state-sanctioned violence Jesus experienced on the cross.

This year, we will explore the image of cross as a metaphor for the proverbial “X marks the spot!” to look at how black and brown people in Asheville and the nation have had their lands and lives stolen and how we can be faithful to the work of the people rising through reparations and welcome.

The procession is an annual event and traditionally includes singing, and spoken word reflections at different sites around the City. These sacred sites become the bedrock for action when we reveal and understand who is experiencing generational systems meant for death and destruction.

We typically walk/roll several miles in the course of the two hour gathering. This is meant to be a time of reflection and to call ourselves to the work of ending all systems that create mass suffering built on racism writ large in our community institutions
