Trees Offer Lasting Memorials to Loved Ones

Warning: Information you find on this page may be outdated or incorrect.

Planting a tree in celebration of a loved one’s life can provide a living legacy for those who knew that person well and benefits to those whom they never met.

GreenWorks urban forestry program helps honor an individual’s life through memorial tree plantings in public spaces.

Ten fruit trees were recently planted in the Bent Creek Community Park in memory of Michael Sanders, an Enka-Candler community member. Bent Creek Community Neighborhood, Pisgah Plants Nursery and family and friends worked with Asheville GreenWorks to make this memorial tree planting possible.

Memorial trees have been planted on public land throughout Asheville and Buncombe County over the past 45 years. Many of these continue to provide fruit, beautiful blooms and colorful leaves for the enjoyment of all.

GreenWorks will also dedicate trees we plant to individuals, living or deceased, with a donation of $125 per tree. To request a tree planting in memory of a loved one, or to organize a memorial tree planting of your own, please contact [email protected].
