YMCA Offers New Military Appreciation Program

Military veterans, active duty military, and their families are now eligible for the YMCA of Western North Carolina’s new Military Appreciation membership program.

“It’s an honor to be able to share this new rate with current and future members of our association,” said Tim Blenco, chief operating officer of the YMCA of WNC. “As a veteran, I know the sacrifice these men, women, and their families give to protect our freedoms. Anything we can do to help take away some of their financial burdens is a privilege.”

The Y’s Military Appreciation program covers several types of membership with corresponding rates, which apply as long as the veteran or active military individual is a Y member. There are no fees for veterans, active military, and their family members to join the Y.

The YMCA of WNC will continue to participate in the Military Outreach Initiative, which provides free Y memberships to deployed military families through the Department of Defense. More information can be found at ymcawnc.org/military-memberships.

Applications are available at any YMCA location to get the Military Appreciation program rate. Requirements include a valid military or veteran ID card, a DD214 form showing release from active duty, or a driver’s license indicating a veteran designation.
