Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity Seeks to Raise $25,000

Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity is celebrating a “35 years and 500 families served” milestone the best way it knows how: by building a 35th Anniversary House. Key partner AvL Technologies stepped up with a lead gift, offering to match all donations to the house, dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.

Folks can help Habitat raise $25,000 by donating online at ashevillehabitat.org or pledging support by texting Celia to 71777 from your mobile phone. “This is a great opportunity to double your impact, and we’re grateful for AvL Technologies for offering this matching grant. Whether $35 or $500, gifts of any and all amount are much appreciated and will help us reach our goal,” noted Kit Rains, Development Director.

Construction on the 35th Anniversary House, a 2 bedroom/1 bath home in Habitat’s Arden neighborhood, began June 8th. Upon completion, future homeowner Celia Ramirez will purchase the home from Habitat and pay an affordable 30-year mortgage. “My dream is to live with dignity, in a safe environment with my son, in a home full of love, peace and harmony,” said Ramirez.

Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity has built more than 300 new houses and repaired more than 200 homes since its inception in 1983. Mortgage payments made by Habitat homeowners are cycled back into the organization’s building program, helping to fund the construction of more homes. Asheville Area Habitat is the only local non-profit housing agency that focuses solely on ownership.
