The Village Potters will host a Horsehair Firing Sale and Demonstration event on Sept. 8th to raise funds toward the purchase of a traveling, teaching Raku Kiln.
The kiln will be used in the Advanced Ceramics Program at The Village Potters, and taken to festivals and events for workshops and demonstrations. The events will take place outdoors, in front of The Village Potters gallery, located at Riverview Station in the River Arts District on the Second Saturday of August and September.
The upcoming events will feature the use of the new kiln, and attendees will see various ceramic forms fired and horsehair applied to the hot pots. Those pots will be available for sale, with all proceeds supporting the kiln purchase and future teaching events. The events will take place in the parking lot area in front of The Village Potters gallery entrance from 1:00pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 8th, 2018. There is no cost to attend and watch the demonstrations, and horsehair pots made that day will be specially priced starting at $35 for the event.
The Village Potters are Sarah Wells Rolland, Judi Harwood, Melanie Robertson, Lori Theriault, Christine Henry, and Julia Mann. They comprise an intentional Collective of potters who share a commitment to inspire a passion for ceramic art and nurture creative exploration through education, experience, relationships, and community. The Village Potters includes three showrooms, a Teaching Center offering ongoing classes in wheel and hand building for adults, an Independent Study and Mentoring Program, and scheduled demonstration and hands-on workshops. The Village Potters is an educational member of The Craft Guild of the Southern Highlands, and is an official distributor for Laguna Clays.
