City of Asheville Offices to Close for Thanksgiving Holiday

Asheville city government offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Here is a roundup of city service holiday schedules.

ART bus service
ART bus service will be suspended Nov. 22, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Thanksgiving is one of two holidays during which the City of Asheville’s ART system closes. Sanitation schedule
Garbage and recycling collection will be suspended Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22. Customers with Thursday garbage and recycling (B week) collection will have trash and recycling collected Friday, Nov. 23. Garbage should be placed by the curb by 7 a.m. Brush will be collected Monday-Wednesday Thanksgiving week. Any brush that was missed will be collected the following week.

Parks & Recreation
All city parks will remain open 6:00 am to 10:00 pm on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23, including the skatepark. Parks & Recreation facilities will function on the following schedules over the holiday:

· All recreation community centers will be closed Nov. 22-23.
· The WNC Nature Center will be closed Thanksgiving Day, reopens Friday, Nov. 23.
· The Aston Park Tennis Center will be closed Thanksgiving Day, reopens Friday, Nov. 23. This center will be open through November, then close for the season, to reopen in spring.
· The Asheville Municipal Golf Course will be closed Thanksgiving Day, reopens Friday, Nov. 23.
· Riverside Cemetery gates will be open their usual hours but the cemetery office will be closed Nov. 22-23.

U.S. Cellular Center
The U.S. Cellular Center will be closed Thanksgiving Day, and it will be open Friday-Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend, hosting the VisitCurrituck.com Battle in the Blue Ridge. This college basketball round robin tournament features two games daily. Participating teams include UNC Wilmington, Gardner Webb University, Eastern Illinois University and Arkansas State University. Throughout the holiday weekend, tickets will be available to all of the upcoming events at USCellularCenterAsheville.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000.

Public safety and Water Resources
All public safety services, including police, fire and emergency response, will operate to normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Water Resources staff will be available for water related emergencies 24 hours a day over the holiday weekend. Customers can call the customer service line at 828-251-1122 to report water related emergencies, leaks, breaks and no water calls.

Special event downtown: Turkey Trot
Start your Thanksgiving off with some exercise and be guilt free the rest of the day. Be sure to remind your holiday visitors, friends and family to bring their running shoes to be part of the Turkey Trot 5K and Gobble Wobble in downtown Asheville. There will be some minor traffic impacts. All roads will remain open but motorists may experience momentary delays for rolling closures at intersections as Asheville Police assist with traffic control along the course.
