Buncombe County Schools Announces Upcoming Calendar Change

Buncombe County Schools has an important calendar change to share. Tuesday, April 30 will now be a full day of instruction instead of an early dismissal day.

The county is moving the early dismissal to the following day, Wednesday, May 1. As educators across the state consider advocacy activities for May 1, the county wants to offer staff members an opportunity to participate as well, after students have been dismissed.

As always, the school system’s primary focus remains on delivering a quality education to all of its students and ensuring that they are in a safe environment with access to breakfast and lunch. It is also striving to ensure classified staff members are able to work on May 1 and, therefore, their pay won’t be adversely affected.

Buncombe County Schools believes that it is in the best interest of its students and families that students are in school on May 1. However, please be aware that if the number of staff absences rises to the level that the system cannot safely operate schools and supervise students, they may need to close and in which case a subsequent announcement will be delivered.
