Asheville Symphony Presents Fright Night on Saturday, Oct. 19

The Asheville Symphony’s October concert — “Fright Night” — will feature Berlioz’s grand Symphonie Fantastique. Inspired by an opium trip, it remains one of the most original and unusual symphonies in the standard repertoire.

The first half offers three unusual counterparts: Anna Clyne’s Masquerade, a thrilling overture written by one of Classical music’s rising stars, Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain in it’s rare, more gritty and powerful original version, and finally Daughterty’s Dead Elvis — a performance piece for bassoon soloist complete with an Elvis jumpsuit!
