Asheville City Schools to Host Spoken Word and Poetry Event on March 25

The Asheville City Schools Foundation (ACSF) and Asheville City Schools are hosting a spoken word and poetry event on March 25. The theme of the event is “Asheville: 10 Things I’ve Been Meaning to Say to You.”

This will be an evening of spoken word and poetry performed by Asheville City high school and middle school students, followed by a presentation from Jason Reynolds , National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature and author of Ghost, the Track Series, As Brave As You, and Long Way Down.

Students from Asheville High School, School of Inquiry and Life Sciences, Asheville Middle School, and Montford North Star Academy are participating in a writing contest for a poem-style commentary with the prompt “Asheville: 10 Things I’ve Been Meaning to Say to You.” Students from this contest will be presenting alongside Mr. Reynolds at the event.

The event will be held on Wednesday, March 25, at the Asheville High School auditorium located at 419 McDowell Street. Doors open at 5:30 pm with the program beginning at 6:30 pm. Parking is accessible from Victoria Road and McDowell Street. Spanish interpretation services available.

Four tiers of tickets are available with a Gold level that includes an after-party at Benne on Eagle and a Platinum level that includes the after-party along with a pre-event book signing with Jason Reynolds.
