American Airlines to Reinstate Service to Philadelphia and New York City at AVL

In anticipation of increasing travel demand to and from the Asheville area, American is reinstating daily nonstop service to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) in April as well as Saturday service to New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in May.

Daily service to PHL begins April 2, and seasonal Saturday service to LGA begins May 8 and will operate through Oct. 23.

With the addition of these new routes, American will operate a record of 14 peak day flights at AVL.

“There is pent-up demand for air travel,” said Lew Bleiweis, Executive Director at Asheville Regional Airport. “And travel numbers are increasing as more and more people become vaccinated. We are thrilled to see this excellent air service returning and thank American Airlines for their continued commitment to the AVL market.”

“American is eager to introduce seasonal Saturday service to New York-LaGuardia and for the return of nonstop daily service to Philadelphia,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Vice President of Network Planning. “As customers begin to embrace travel, green space and the great outdoors are high on their list. These new routes not only offer new gateways to the beauty of Asheville and the Great Smoky Mountains, but also connect residents in the region to American’s global network with just one stop.”
