Hendersonville Community Theatre to Hold Open Auditions for “Always a Bridesmaid” on Saturday, April 17th

Set over the course of several years, the play follows four women—Libby Ruth, the romantic optimist, Charlie, the no nonsense tomboy, Monette, the wild card who cannot seem to find lasting love, and Deedra, the powerful and determined judge—as they celebrate wedding after wedding.

Set at Laurelton Oaks, a historic venue, run by a crazy, ax-swinging hostess named Sedalia. “Always A Bridesmaid” also introduces viewers to Libby Ruth’s daughter, Kari, who is getting married in the present day and acts as a sort of narrator.

Auditions for the play will take place Saturday, April 17th, from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Those auditioning will be called in one at a time to read. Social distancing and mask wearing will be enforced.

Characters

Kari Ames-Bissette (21-35)

Interspersed between scenes are vignettes of Kari Ames-Bissette, daughter of Libby Ruth, as she gives the toast at her wedding reception. Besides adding some additional humor, she acts as a narrator of sorts, tying the scenes together, and eventually appears in the final scene as the cycle of marriage continues into the next generation.

Libby Ruth Ames (21-50)

The hopeful romantic with the perfect marriage, believes–in spite of all evidence to the contrary–that her friends can find the very same happiness.

Deedra Wingate (21-50)

Headstrong Deedra’s “rock-solid” union hangs by a thread when she discovers her husband not only has a wandering eye, but the hands to match.

Monette Gentry (21-60)

Flashy and self-involved, continues to test her friends’ love and patience with all-too-frequent trips down the aisle.

Sedalia Ellicott (21-55)

A no-nonsense, exacting wedding planner who is so enamored with her establishment’s reputation of never having lost a bride that she is not above employing a few, um, extreme tactics in preserving it.

Charlie Collins (18-50)

Salt-of-the-earth Charlie discovers that marital bliss is not the end of her rainbow and panics when the opportunity presents itself.
