Jargon Earns Coveted Wine Spectator Award for Wine Program

Jargon, a modern American restaurant in Asheville, was recently awarded for its wine program by Wine Spectator.

Jargon received a 2022 Wine Spectator Restaurant Award of Excellence, given to qualifying restaurants with at least 100 bins. Jargon’s extensive wine program is carefully curated by Beverage Manager Andrew Bradford. Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Awards recognize restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.

Wine Spectator officially announced its 2022 Restaurant Award winners in late June, in which Jargon was awarded the Award of Excellence, given to just 1,782 winners total. According to Wine Spectator, these wine lists “feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style. Whether compact or extensive, focused or diverse, these lists deliver sufficient choice to satisfy discerning wine lover.”

“It is an honor to receive this award and to have our wine program recognized,” says Jargon Beverage Manager Andrew Bradford. “We strive to have an offering for every pallet, but also want to include varietals that are more unusual,” Bradford adds. “Our wine list is as eclectic as our cuisine. At Jargon, we offer everything from old world Burgundy and new world Napa cabernets to organic Pet-Nats, skin contact orange wines, and unfiltered rosé.”

To qualify for a Wine Spectator Restaurant Award, a wine list must present complete, accurate information, including vintages and appellations for all selections. Complete producer names and correct spellings are mandatory, and the overall presentation of the list is also considered. Lists that meet these requirements are judged for one of three prominent awards given by Wine Spectator.

“Andrew Bradford has worked tirelessly these past 3 years on our wine program at Jargon” says Sean Piper, Owner of Jargon. “He works with many different distributors, and tastes with them often during the week. His passion for wine is infectious, and he has put the ‘fun’ into wine pairing for our team. Our approach is unpretentious and we love offering 3oz and 6oz pour options to our guests so they can have a culinary adventure at Jargon. I’m very proud of the care taken with each bottle, proper storage temperatures, maintaining staff knowledge, and offering proper glassware.”

In further announcing this accomplishment, Jargon was listed in the Dining Guide of the August 31, 2022, issue of Wine Spectator.

Housed in a beautifully restored, historic West Asheville building for which they received a Griffin Award for Historic Preservation in 2018, Jargon is open for dinner seven days a week. Jargon is located on 715 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
