Your feedback can help shape the future of tobacco use on Buncombe County properties.
In 2009, the Buncombe County Commissioners approved an ordinance banning all forms of tobacco use on Buncombe County properties and extended this ordinance in 2020 with the adoption of an e-cigarette and vaping policy.
The Health and Human Services Board is now interested in determining how that policy is affecting visitors to County properties including government buildings, parks, and parking garages. According to the policies, violators could be fined $50-$100.
The HHS Board needs public feedback to determine if tobacco ordinance enforcement is fair and equitable and to identify ongoing community needs and concerns related to tobacco use. To give your thoughts on this local health concern, we are asking that you take this brief survey by Thursday, March 31, 2023.

What’s next?
After the survey deadline, Buncombe County staff will evaluate the data, produce formal equity recommendations for the HHS Board to consider, and make a presentation to the Board of Commissioners to consider future County tobacco ordinance/policy updates. The County will communicate any developments on its website and social media platforms.
