 A-B Tech and its Drama Club announce performance dates for the company's ninth production, Skeered??, an evening of ghost stories and hauntings with a local twist. The production is directed by Peter Carver and David Novak and designed by Laura Chaney. Performances will be held:
Jack Werner and Brandon Dark are featured in the A-B Tech Drama Club production of Skeered with performances Oct. 22-24 and 29-31. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are October 22-24 at 7:30 p.m. There are performances on Thursday and Friday, October 29 and 30, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 31, 2:30 p.m. All shows are in the Carriage House Theatre (behind the Fernihurst mansion). Tickets are $3 A-B Tech students and staff, $5 for area students with ID, $10 for adults. For reservations and information, contact ,[email protected] or call 254-1921, ext. 890 Skeered?? is a storytelling project that combines classic technique with local anomalies. Hear a jack tale, haints and the truth about such local haunts as Helen's Bridge, the Brown Mountain Lights and the Pink Lady at the Grove Park Inn. The student cast features Brandon Dark, Amelie Delaunay-Vandal, Naomi Dunn, Danie Easter, Kathy Gordon, Karen Parton, Jordan Pfluger, Lauren Racer, Peter Smith-McDowell and Jack Werner. The Carriage House Theatre is an ideal location for ghost stories. The striking building was erected by Mr. and Mrs. John Curran in 1933 as a garage for "Viewmont," their name for the remodeled colonial Fernihurst mansion. The adjacent Fernihust mansion is known to be haunted with the ghost of Mary Connely. Now a small theatre complex, the carriage house features a 35-seat black box theatre/classroom in what was once the garage. The second floor, originally the gardener's apartment, now houses a green room/design classroom, a costume shop, and two offices. The aesthetic highlight is the original garage door on the south side of the building. A cupola and weathervane top the newly remodeled exterior. The A-B Tech Drama Club was founded in 2003 to encourage students to participate in drama at the community's college. Drama is growing at A-B Tech, and such classes as Acting I and II, Acting for the Camera, Storytelling, Stagecraft, Play Production, Readers Theatre, and Stage Makeup are now staples in the curriculum.
